Album Artwork in the 1960s

1960s Album Artwork //

The 1960s was a huge decade for music, along with this came a wide variety of iconic record sleeve artwork.

The Beatles

Led Zeplin

Disraeli Gears

The Velvet Underground

These examples of record sleeve design show just how varied and different they all were from one another based on the image of the band. Some were cleverly minimal whilst others were crazy and psychedelic.

One of my designs will replicate this in that it will be based primarily on the feel and flow of the actual record.

The rhythm of my song choice is very slow and melodic. It includes 'passionate vocals' by Etta James on top of 'sweeping orchestration' and is often used for weddings and wedding receptions.

The lyrics repeat themselves a couple of times throughout the song. To replicate this in my designs I will be exploring repetitive patterns.

To create a repeated pattern I will be experimenting with the two shapes I have used earlier in my designs; The Heart and the Clover.

I've first designed two simple pictograms using the same stroke weight. The pictograms should be legible at a number of different sizes.
